São Miguel is accessible by airplane, only. The international airport on this island is located in the capital Ponta Delgada, code PDL. A flight from Lisbon or Porto will take 2.5 h, from Toronto 5.5 h, and from Boston, Brussels or London 4.5 h. There are not many airlines offering international direct flights to PDL, so it is possible that you have to stopover in Lisbon or Porto. There are several daily flights between São Miguel and the Portuguese mainland, which means that you are not dependent on a particular day of the week for that part of the journey.
Please note: some car rental companies use to ask for the accomodation`s address.
It is recommended to have it ready, together with all required documents (driver license, voucher, credit card).

Journey from the airport:
All rental car counters are a few yards ahead of the exit of the baggage claim area. As soon as you leave the rental car parking, you`re already on the freeway. Follow it until you see Nordeste on a destination board.
Then hold on to direction Nordeste. Change the freeway near Lagoa (exit 4, direction Nordeste). That freeway leads across the island and will soon be a highway with oncoming traffic and partly three lanes. It follows the north coast in eastern direction.
After approx. 40 km / 25 mi, leave the highway at exit 21 to Lomba de São Pedro. At the end of the feeder, turn right (direction Nordeste again).
Follow the street after the town-sign of Lomba de São Pedro for about 1.2 km = 3/4 mile, until you see two big palmtrees on the left and the signpost Lomba de Baixo. Enter to the left and stop immediately on the right side. That is is the Casa Sillanova.
